I'll expound a little bit on what Drake322 is talking about.... I fish Neely very often, 3-4 times a month most of the year, and have for 15-20 years. In typical Coosa river fashion, it's a great offshore lake in the hot Summer when the current is rolling. However, those rains back in the Spring were historic, like disastrous flooding type water levels, and abnormally strong current for an extended time. It seemingly blowed the main river out, he's not kidding, you could run a mile of historically good legdes and they wouldn't even feel the same. Places that used to be gravelly were now "mushy", it's as if it changed the whole contour. And the fish were, not surprisingly, gone. Just gone. I'm sure they were somewhere, but I'm no slouch at ledge/structure fishing, and you'd fish an entire tournament day and never get one single bite offshore. Also, this all happened at the time the big spots normally spawn, and I never caught the big 3-4-5+ pound spots this year off any of the usual places. Long pea gravel, hard bottom points where you could normally drag a C-rig and get your arm broke, were just ghost towns. The grass was WAAAAYY late coming up this year, like it got washed away. I love current as much as the next guy, but think about the the top and bottom dams pushing and pulling the max amount of generation 24/7 for a month. It totally affected the main river.
