I used to be a squirrel guru as a kid, like most I cut my teeth hunting them. In south Alabama I have seen, gray (cat), fox, chipmunk (ground), and flying. Never seen a red squirrel. A quick Google search shows that y'all in north Alabama are at the extreme southern part of thier range, learn something new everyday on here! As to why you are seeing less of them, my google search said grey squirrels can carry a disease which will hurt only the red squirrels. Also the grey squirrels will out compete reds for food. Doesn't help that Fox Squirrels spend most their time on the ground
