I just picked up a new rifle. Is barrel break in really necessary? I don't mind spending the time and money on ammo if it would be worth it. Thoughts and opinions?

Never have followed any break in procedure for any weapon that I've owned in 45 years.
Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

Shilen always said no break-in process was necessary, but after some folks insisted, they published one.
Shoot till it don't shoot good, then clean, and shoot some more.

Some say do it, some say don’t. I’m on the fence but still do it.

It's definitely worth it.barrels after break in don't copper foul nearly as bad and are much easier to clean.anyone who says different has never done it or is not accuracy obsessed.is it necessary to kill deer no but after 3-400 rounds and I here you guys in the gun store saying my gun started shooting all over the place I'll be laughing shooting ragged holes.to each their own but I want be blaming missing a deer or accuracy issues on my equipment it will be honed in

The only barrel I've broke in was a weatherby 7 mag. Went from bad copper fouling to hardly none. I get about 33 shots now before accuracy is affected and 1/2 moa. But I have plenty that will shoot under moa that I know for a fact were not broke in .... Make a difference? I dunno but I had nothing better to do...

Lol yeah that's the opposite of what it's supposed to do.generally will not shoot great during break in due to all the fouling shots and once you've worked your way up 100 rounds or so it really starts to show reward

Yeah what your saying pretty much sums it up just depends on what your trying to get out of it.essier to clean and maybe a little more accuracy.mainly people that clean copper from barrels and load their own ammo who shoot regularly for tighter groups will notice the difference or bench rest competition.
