It is just a social media thing. It happens no more often than when I had to approve the reports. Like Fatty said, kids get mad at their parents and runaway, usually for a few days. Spouses get mad and leave in a hurry all the time too. Little kids wonder off from home and panicked parents call the police. Drunks/Drug Abusers go on binges. Alzheimer patients wonder off. Non custodial parents take the children without knowledge of the other parent. These incidents nowadays make it to social media before the police are contacted and the missing person is located before LE is even aware of the situation. This is when Social media can be used for positive outcomes.

Rarely is a child or anyone Kidnapped by a stranger, but the social media posts make it seem like a daily occurrence because there is no followup on what really happened.
