So I'm flying over to Houston from Mobile this afternoon. Boarding group 2 , seat 3A. Me and my traveling buddy get to our seats, cram our backpacks into the overhead and settle in. A few minutes later a early twenties cutie in the bulkhead seat across from me asks "is this your backpack in the overhead?" I answer "one of them is." She then asks me if I can get my backpack down and put it under the seat in front of me because she needs to put her purse up and she doesn't have a seat in front of her to put the purse. After staring at her trying to figure out if she was serious, I finally tell her not to worry, once the aisle traffic clears, I feel sure that we can get her purse in the overhead. As soon as the aisle clears, she jumps up, pushes at her purse in the overhead briefly and then declares, "there is no room, it's not going to fit. I really don't see why you can't put your bag at your feet so I can put my purse in the overhead". At that point, in spite of the fact I feel sure that I could have got her purse in the overhead, the fact that I am over twice her age and don't want a bag at my feet plus the very simple truth that I was there first thus my bag being in the overhead to start worth, I just shut up, looked straight ahead and let the stewardess deal with her. Unbelievable the entitlement some folks feel.

If it just a dang purse, she should have just held in her lap. If she did not want to hold it, then maybe she should have stuck it her suitcase.
I am not on the same level as my husband, but people do get on my nerves with some of the things I see.

Kind of off topic, but I fly a good bit. When the plane pulls in and stops, why do people stand up and start pulling their bags out of the overhead? Where do they think they are going? You have 100 people in front of you that have to exit before you can. Sit your ass down until it’s your turn!

I never think I'm getting anywhere any faster, but sometimes I stand up because I've been sitting the whole time and I'm glad for a chance to get out of that cramped up seat.

I am not on the same level as my husband, but people do get on my nerves with some of the things I see. Sounds like she was in the front row and the frigging FAA won’t allow you to hold anything larger than a damn cell phone. Simpleman handled it well, you would have been kicked off the flight if you would have acted like that brat.
not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids

Personally Simpleman, I think you made a mistake. Did you KNOW it was actually a female? Did you check? ( Think Crocodile Dundee). If you would have checked and it was truly a female, then you should have let her put her purse up.

Fly first class and don't deal with it. Goodness, it's only money.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

I should write a book about all the crap I have seen traveling. I don’t fly as much with this new job (once a month) but I use to fly out every Monday and man did I see some crazy crap. Headphones or earbuds are a must. Put them on and close your eyes that way no one talks to you.

Fly first class and don't deal with it. Goodness, it's only money. With a seat number of 3A, he either was in first class, or on a commuter flight (or ugh, Southwest...which I don't think flies out of Mobile) that doesn't have a first class cabin.

How did we come to this point in society where young women are defiantly challenging older men?

My guess is that half way thru the flight she would need you to help her get something out of her purse, you did her a favor. You people just suffer from old white people privilege!

I'm 6'4" and can't hardly stand even a 45 minute flight, much less a 4/5 hour haul.
