I would guess the truck is still in your name.

I agree. I’d hang on to that bill of sale with 2 hands. Or lock it up in a safe.

id mail them back a copy of the bill of sale, the original affidavit, and a short letter that you are no longer the owner of this vehicle as of whatever date is on the bill of sale. I wouldnt sign anything to do with a title change that did not belong to me anymore i would think that would constitute some form of fraud let him deal with it he bought it its his problem.

It seems you might be liable for any tickets, toll charges and maybe insurance(wrecks). Not sure about the Alabama laws. This is why you need to have a face to face at the court house on a vehicle sale to make sure it isn't in your name.

The title has my name listed as the seller, and his as the buyer. I also have the tag still. What would meeting at the courthouse do? Make him register it then and there or not sell it to him? I feel like I’ve done everything correct legally, and ole boy is just trying to pull a fast one. Y’all got me nervous saying I still own it. Even though I signed over the title if he doesn’t register it I still own it?

If you have copies of everything it would save you if you end up in court. It sounds like he’s trying to avoid tax and penalties. I always keep a copy of the signed title and an original bill of sale signed and notarized. I give the original title and bill of sale to the buyer.

If anything comes up protest it and have bill of sale as proof. Dont worry about anything. May become a hassle but dont think you liable for nothing. Did you have a witness on BOS?

You do not still own it. I do this for a living and have for the last 27 years. If he wants it in another name he must go pay taxes on sale , get title in his name then retitle in new owners name . You are completely out of it.

To clarify a little you can do what he is asking you to do as long as it is done in front of a notary. But you are by no means obligated to do anything. If you did as he asked because of time between sell and title app. he would still have to pay taxes and penality, you have 20 days in al. to register your vehicle.

He is in for a good tax bill. In Ga. they determine the value of the truck and that is what you pay taxes on no matter what you sold it to him for.

It’s really simple like F&I said. Just tell him that you’re going to pass on changing anything and be done with it.
