Sooooooo......for those of you who have actually hunted in other states that have used corn for dozens of years. You know it is not magic. Do deer eat it....yes. They also eat a lot of other things. I saw 18 deer this morning. I had a feeder 60 yards out and there was corn on the ground. Not one deer went to the feeder. They all fed on the white oak acorns around me. No Magic. So I have had about 80 deer in bow range this year. Have I killed 80 deer?....No. I haven’t even drawn my bow back. See the thing is, not everyone shoots every deer they see. Me and my hunting partners are more about conservation than anything. We feed the deer with corn and food plots.

Sooooo.....if every redneck asshole in Alabama shoots every deer that comes to a corn pile will we have a problem? Maybe, but the way I see it, the problem is with the hunter and not the corn. I know or have heard of guys shooting 20 deer a year. Not to judge, because when I was a young man, I would do the same thing. But I think many if not most people evolve into more of a game manager rather than just a blood thirsty killer. Once again, not judging anyone, especially someone new to hunting who still gets off on the kill. But I think hunting evolves into something bigger for most of us.

I also grew up running dogs. I would much rather see people hunting over corn than running dogs. It is fun, but running dogs takes no thought or intelligence. Yes it’s fun. However, there are so many bad things that come from it. Many people have been killed over dog running disputes in this state too! Glad to see it mostly gone.

Hunting brings out the worst in people.
