My son is 17 and I want him to be able to hunt by himself. He lives in Texas with him mom so he has to buy an out of state license, yet all the hunters education online classes say you have to live in Alabama. How does he get his hunter education to hunt alone?

He may have to take Hunters Ed in TX. I know AL acknowledges some online hunters ed classes. Maybe TX does too. Hope this helps

Man, I'm so glad I grew up when hunting was enjoyable and easy.
Troutgreen, call the DCNR at 334-242-3465 and ask for the Law Enforcement section, and explain your situation to them for the specific answer. They will help you with the details.

I think in Alabama you have to be a resident for 90 consecutive days to purchase a license, the DCNR is your best call.

He can take it in Texas. Texas' course is IHEA approved, therefore Alabama reciprocates.

I've never read any where that the safety course applied to out of state hunters When I lived in Florida I had to provide my hunters safety number to purchase an out of state license. My card was from Alabama, but a friend of mine had to take the course in Florida online so he could purchase his Alabama license.

I had to take the class to comply with Federal places I hunt around the country, I took it in Texas and eventhough Iâm exempt because of my age, Bama still accepted it.

Hunter Ed is a national course. Take it anywhere in any state and it's good for anywhere in any state.

Sporting goods retailers, including walmart, use the outdoor alabama website to process and sell licences. I had to do it when I worked at the gun store. If the website asks for a hunter ed number when you do it online at home then it won't let them process it without one at a store no matter where you go.

Not that I am recommending this, but you can put whatever you want in the fields online where it asks your state and hunter's ed number for out of state licenses. There are no validations. I buy non-residence licenses but my hunter's ed is an AL course, so I don't do this myself...just heard it can be done and know that there are a number of states that don't even have the ability to go back and look up past hunter's ed numbers, especially when they were done early on when this became a thing, so how the heck is AL going to be able to validate??

If the warden checks the youth hunter and he has no hunters safety card, he busted... Checking him for his card will validate

My grandson on my land? - Resident Landowners and immediate family: Immediate family defined as: Landownerâs spouseLandownerâs children, if Alabama residentsLandownerâs parents, if Alabama residentsLandownerâs brothers and/or sisters, if Alabama residentsIf Landowner has a tenant residing on the property, he and his immediate family residing on the property are exempt from the requirement of a hunting license.NOTE: If the member of the immediate family has moved out of state, regardless of whether they possess an Alabama Driverâs License, they are considered Non-Residents. Grandchildren of landowner are NOT exempt. So, yes, grandchildren who are of age to need a license have to have hunters ed.

Since around 07 you can hunt and buy a license without hunters ed if you go with and are supervised by a licensed hunter who has hunters ed or is exempt from hunters ed. Not sure if this applies to non residents though.
