In TN the vehicle sales tax is damn near the same as regular sales tax here. I think it was 7 or 7.5%. I could go just south of the state line and buy anything I wanted in Wal-mart at 5.5% tax.
They have no income tax but they find ways to get around that minor problem. In Tennessee and Georgia it's 7% on new or used but my tag only runs about $30 a year as opposed to Alabama where a $20k vehicle the tag was about $200 annually. The government is going to get theirs either way.
