I was told that new tires go on the rear, even on FWD cars, because of traction on cornering. You want the rear to stick to the road especially cornering, so the newer treads go there. This is what I was told by multiple tire stores.

One thing I learned in Traffic Homicide Investigation school is that tread wear has no effect on skidding or stopping. The speed of a vehicle at the time of the crash is obtained by the skids, type of skids (straight line vs. yaw, etc) and surface. A tool that is made from a tire cut in half and then filled with a prescribed amount of concrete (weight) is then pulled across the surface with a device very much like a bow draw weight measuring tool. The weight it takes to pull it across the surface is then put into a formula that will give you the speed of the vehicle at the time the skid marks were made. The treads on the vehicle have nothing to do with the formula.
In other words, treads help stop hydroplaning and that is about it, unless you have mud grips and are in some good Dallas County Blackbelt Prairie Mud, then they help, for a second or two, but then your still screwed.

I buy four tires, when I need tires.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

They should all wear the same if you are rotating them properly.

I’m with Outback on this. Tires get replaced a full set at a time. I was having a very hard time deciding what in the world was going on. I had no idea people actually buy two new tires at a time to replace a front or rear set. That's so foreign to me. Do people really have a hard time with a complete set not wearing equally? If you rotate them every other oil change for the life of the tires, they will wear evenly and you’ll get a lot more mileage out of them. I was reading the first half of this thread scratching my head trying to figure out why someone would have only two new tires. Now a faulty or flat tire gets replaced obviously but I have always bought tires in sets of 4. That’s something I don’t take chances on is the safety of myself or family.

I'm far from rich, but I can afford a set of tires. I guess if that's your definition of rich, then I'm rolling in luxury.
