The owner of Smith Brothers motor sports shop in Oneonta was killed on a 4-wheeler Monday. He collided with his eight year old grandson while they were ridding in Blount County. Gerald died in the hostopal later that night. frown
I'm not sure about injuries to his grandson.

I bought a Kawasaki Mule from him. Sorry to hear that. Condolences and prayers for his family.

No, it's on highway 75 in Oneonta. Close to the Walmart.

Gerald was a very intelligent down to earth man. I spent many many hours in that shop just hanging out back in the late 90's. For quite some time I just thought Gerald was the "grumpy old mechanic" that knew all the answers. If you didn't know better you would have thought he was a grunt laborer. I had a great amount of respect for him.

His grandson had a rough experience with the situation but he was perfectly fine physically.

The first time I met Gerald was when I bought a new 2005 Yamaha Roadstar from his shop. I hadn't ridden a motorcycle since I was 16 years old so the deal was I would buy the bike and someone would ride it to my house for me. blush I didn't want to pull out onto Highway 75 since it had been so long since I had ridden a motorcycle. Gerald rode it to my house dressed in his blue mechanics shirt and pants with grease on his arms and under his fingernails. He got in my truck and as I was taking him back to the shop, I ask him if he was the head mechanic there. He said I guess you could say that and I own the place. grin
Gerald was a good man and a hard worker. I used to hang out with him at the shop and I've seen him do everything from selling motorcycles and 4-wheelers to cleaning the bathrooms. He did it all! He will surely be missed.
