The advice above is all good. A good pro shop will save you tons of time, money, and headaches. Once you get everything setup and ready, practice, practice, and practice some more. Attending a few 3D shoots is great as well, you get to meet other bowhunters, practice judging distance, picking a spot, and watch and learn. And it is fun.
I don't shoot 3D to win. I shoot it because I love it and the folks. It is also great practice for hunting season.
I have been on western hunts with guys that can sit in the back yard and slam their targets to death, yet when the real thing walks up, they miss. I think 3D helps with that. You have to learn to shoot in front of others, concentrate, and judge distance. That deer is not always going to walk up and stop right on 20 yards! LOL
