About stacking your firewood....... alway be mindful of copperheads and rattlers hiding in the stacked wood before real cold sets in and even then if they're there they'll just be slower. I might add a few moth balls as I stacked it if it were me.

I'll heed your advice, however, they will only be one split long thick. Not much place to hide.

Yeah. The vice was pretty cool for $15. It's go t that neat art-deco style from the 1940's.

Worked 16 hours Thursday and only got about 4 hours of sleep, so got another Friday at the the cabin. Not being one to waste my morning I set out to see if this stump could kick my ass... but I'm happy to say the score was:

Old Marine 1
Stump 0

I was tired of seeing that old thing sticking up under my deck.

I'm going to eventually park a small tractor back here so I've got to level it off and put down some crushed stone

Hopefully I will be using it to fill up the new Log shelves I built. #gettingreadyforwinteratthecabin

I didn't need a mega log splitter since the logs I will be using will be only 15" long for the little stove we bought.

It's actually mounted too high. I need longer 2x4's

Headline:

Dumbass Irishguy Splits Firewood On Hottest Day of the Year!

I was just going to go down under the deck and split a little firewood this morning... Well, I got to going and got to be good friends with my crappy little log splitter and damn near split all the logs I had laying around the place that were already cut up. I think I have pretty close to a cord now. A good days work. I think i deserve a beer or several.

Thanks. It wasn't very hard work, just slow and steady. That little log splitter does a pretty good job. A good solid oak piece over about 10" will stop it though. It's only a 5 ton splitter.

No kidding. I've got to bring the chainsaw up here and cut some more so I have something to split. I've run out of the logs I had laying around, at least the ones without bugs and rot in 'em.

I love the old country light fixture. Might have a slight redneck slant to it laugh

Another weekend of hard work and good eats. I just about kilt myself. This weekend I went from: "I want a tractor" to "I need a tractor."

My new "Gravel Workout." Uses all major muscle groups: Core, legs, back, chest, shoulders, triceps and biceps. No expensive equipment or fancy gym membership required. All you need is a pile of gravel, a wheelbarrow, a shovel, a pick ax, and a rake. These can be obtained at your local hardware store for very cheap. grin

We finished up the French drains at the cabin, built a retaining wall under the firewood storage, leveled off under the lower deck to make a place to store the tractor (I'm about to buy,) built a place to park the garbage can, and a place to keep the two propane tanks for the gas range.

A lot of work for two days. Time for a well deserved cold beer... or three...

We went from this:

To this:

We also finally finished up the French drains...

[Linked Image]

And made a place for the garbage can...

[Linked Image]

And once the French drains were buried made a batter place for the propane tanks...

[Linked Image]

Also made a place to hang the implements of destruction...
