Going to visit some of my wife's side of the family in Southwest Ohio this fall for an early Thanksgiving trip. First time I have ever gone but theyve got a few plots of land around the Brown County and Highland County line, and said I could hunt their land, two bigger farms 70-80 acres each and a smaller horse farm probably 20-30 acres also. I did a little research on their rut and decided to plan on heading up Wednesday Nov 6 and then head home Sunday Nov 10th.

Does anyone have any info or tips they can give me on this area? fields or woods better? ridges vs creek bottoms? Calls, scents, morning vs afternoon? Also, I seen they have a fall turkey season, does anyone know if you can shoot a turkey with my bow while deer hunting? Id assume you can but can't find any regulations on if you have to be on the ground vs up a tree to do so! This will be a family trip so I don't know how many chances I will get to slip off and get some time to myself so ANY HELP OR INFO WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!

Definitely that time of year pack a grunt call
If any of the ground is farmed hunt the woods between the bedding area and the food
Good luck hope you kill a biggun
morning or evening is gone depend on the place

I hunt SE Indiana. Nov. 6 will be prime time here and I am sure there to. Dont worry about the size of the land. I have one spot I hunt that may be 2 acres and have killed some brutes from there.

Hunted a couple of times close to Xenia and in Adams County. That was about 10 years ago and unfortunately didn’t get anything. The times we went were beginning of October and first of December. The dates you picked are probably great for the rut. Might want to read up on the laws. Seems like at one time hunting hours ended at legal sunset time.

The bucks will probably be traveling and can be found just about anywhere. If in an agriculture area, I would be on the edge of fields where they can be "sight-seeing", or on a woods finger that has a field in between on to the opposite side woods finger. If it's a huge area of woods, I'd be looking for a saddles and ridges, and forget the creeks. But there's always exceptions.

I love hunting Ohio. lots of deer..some huge bucks and you generally see a lot. It should be real good on private land . Hunt the edge of thickets, bring WARM clothes because it can be pretty cold at that time youre going. Also sit as long as you can.

I have hunted around Nelsonville and Columbus normally first two weeks of November are best. Don't forget your grunt call and rattling bag/horns. The deer respond to calling.

Based on what I’ve seen driving through from Cincinnati to Toledo, find the freshest cut corn field that has a stand of trees next to it and sit and watch.

Those are definitely pre rut/rut dates and you should definitely have a lot of movement. Like others said, bring your grunt call, rattlin horns and hunt hard. You could possibly shoot the buck of your lifetime

You can feed in Ohio as well so if you can have someone throw out some bait on each of those sections for a couple bags each youll do even better.

I have a family farm in Madison County Ohio, I have been hunting there for the past 15 years the time frame you are looking at is a good time. Last year the peak rut was one week later than your planed time frame, keep a lose eye on the moon phase new moon is the best. Morning and evening are the best times but anytime during the day can be good hunting. If you have crop fields with a small patch of woods in the open field this is going to be the best place to get a good buck a tree line on the edge of afield is also a good place, last year I killed a 160 class 10 point my son killed a 170 class 12 point the same day. Good hunting if I can be of more help please let me know.
