Anyone have experience? I want to paint a vehicle where the hood and roof have faded off then sell it. Don’t care too much about long or even short term quality. I’ve heard it can be done for under $700.
not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids

If you're going to take it to Maaco you may as well get some Krylon and do it with that.

My FIL is a paint distributor specifically for automotive industry. They sell PPG or DuPont (can’t remember which) to the local Macao store here in Dothan.

I did bodywork and painting as my first trade when I was 12 to 17. I even painted murals on cars with Binks Mini air guns. MAACO was the cheapest Paint jobs back then even . I believe they quote a price but it is for the minimal. Then every scratch and ding would cost more.
Id go to a reputable body shop and LOOK at their work, in the bays right then..and their cars waiting for customers to pick up.
Actually do that at the MAACO youre suggesting and SEE what their work looks like. They will know your not going to be taken just by doing due diligence like that.
I would NEVER hire a sub contractor in Home building without inspecting their work prior.

What kinda vehicle and what color. If it’s factory base coat clear coat the paint for a hood and roof would cost at least $400 for a small vehicle We just painted the bike I’m building last week and just enough good quality base clear for a Harley was a grand. You could maybe paint the whole thing cheaper with a different paint though if that’s the case

It’s a black suburban. It’s obviously a flaw in that year model.

To me It would be easier and cheaper to do a two tone. Do enough to cover the problem area in another color so that you’re not having to blend colors and it probably will improve resale since that’s your goal. Probably do that for $700. I’d be glad to look at it for you either way though if you wanna bring it by the shop.

Used Maaco before. You get what you pay for. Would not do that again.

It’s a black suburban. It’s obviously a flaw in that year model. It's not a flaw. It was GMs experiment with environmentally friendly primer. And it affects several year models. My 99 Tahoe has very little paint left on the hood and roof. On another note, I believe honesty is the best policy. I wouldn't slap a cheap paint job on a truck and hope to screw some poor fool. I would either paint it right, or sell it like it is.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

Black and brown or silver look good.

Have a buddy that has a black Tacoma. The hood and roof were faded bad and there was surface rust just starting to come through. Maaco painted just the roof and hood and it looks great (looks new to me). They charged him $400.
