Most of them are good people who actually like America and do not like their government.

Mohammad Mosaddegh, Iranian democracy advocate and deposed Prime Minister
In 1951, Mohammad Mosaddegh was appointed as the Prime Minister. He became enormously popular in Iran after he nationalized Iran's petroleum industry and oil reserves. He was deposed in the 1953 Iranian coup d'état, an Anglo-American covert operation that marked the first time the United States had overthrown a foreign government during the Cold War.[162]

After the coup, the Shah became increasingly autocratic and sultanistic, and Iran entered a phase of decades-long controversial close relations with the United States and some other foreign governments.[163] While the Shah increasingly modernized Iran and claimed to retain it as a fully secular state,[31] arbitrary arrests and torture by his secret police, the SAVAK, were used to crush all forms of political opposition.[164]

Our CIA overthrew THEIR government and installed the Shah - so we could get THEIR oil - for cheap.
And the Shah was a tyrannical dictator.

And then we backed and armed Iraq in its ten year war against Iran where a lot of Iranians were killed .

So they have plenty of reason to hate us - in addition to the fact that they are Muslim

I said it before - the best way to deal with Iran or any other Muslim country is containment, not perpetual warfare.

And as far as the Persian Gulf is concerned, those rich Arab oil countries should defend it themselves. It is their oil they
are selling and we get virtually no oil out of the Gulf. We are a net oil producer and exporter now. We don't need their oil anymore.

Founding Fathers warned against foreign entanglements, getting involved in other countries' wars and conflicts.
And warned against going around the world in search of "dragons to slay" (bad guys to wage war against).
