Goose with arrow in chest seen in east Huntsville Associated Press May 27, 2009
BIG COVE - A Canada goose with an arrow through its chest has been seen in the east Huntsville neighborhood of Big Cove.
Resident Jerry Brown said he saw the goose Tuesday beside a lake behind Eastern Shore Drive and called Huntsville Animal Services and North Alabama Wildlife Rehab.
Jennifer Waters, a volunteer with North Alabama Wildlife Rehab, said birds are hit by arrows more than most might think.
Brown decided against trying to get close to the wounded bird and Waters said he did the right thing.
She said the geese are big and strong and can survive an embedded arrow if it missed vital organs. She said they eventually will pull the arrow out themselves.
"Getting up every day and going through this again and again is hard."
