That’s the correct way to do it. Drilling in the mortar is half assed and worthless as an anchor point but that’s what most of them do because it’s easier.

Had this same argument with my wife. She got pissed because I drilled the brick instead of the mortar. Drilling the brick is the right way.



Yeah but if i remove it then i gotta deal with holes in my brick. I wanted it in my mortor just like everything else on my house. It holds fine and doesnt screw my brick up.



Depends on the anchor bolts. I would rather run my anchor bolt (if long enough to reach the CMU) in the mortar joint than into the brick itself. Of course I'm unaware of how big/long the anchor bolts you are talking about are.
