So much work, not enough workers. Get all the jobs you can, spend as little time on them as you possibly can. This is what you get when laziness, greed, and dont give a crap get together. Makes me sick. Absolutely no quality of workmanship in America today, very little anyhow. But each one of us have an opportunity to make it a little better every day if we choose to.

People that haven’t dealt with the idiots in that area don’t have a clue teacher. There weren’t enough subs to go around before the storm, and most of them were poor at their jobs and keeping their word. After the storm, half of the labor moved out of the area and the available work increased 10x. My dad is a home builder by profession, and it took him until April to get both his houses back up and running. The same repairs would have been complete in December if he was back in Birmingham. And that’s after building houses in the area for a couple of years and knowing the local subs/ moving down there for the duration. If you have more trouble, I’d definitely consider pulling out of Dothan or Tallahassee. It’s worth paying more to have a job done in a timely manner and correctly.

I was the Project Supt. over 3 Condo Builds over a 5 year period in Destin and PCB back in '04 to '09......The quality of the finishes was PITIFUL....BUT..We were fighting a Un-Achieveable Schedule....which was linked to the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$....Along with a lot of poor help.

Craftsmanship and quality of work is not well-known on the Gulf coast...

You are correct everything is based on unrealistic schedules now. Some of the projects we do now that have a 9 month duration were 2 year projects in the 80s. Now there isn’t a 40 hour work week anymore. The GCs answer is 7 days a week and get more Mexicans.The young project managers coming out of Auburn with a building science degree has no clue what quality is. Their only goal is to shave days off the schedule.

Absolutely. Thats why i refuse to hire out. I do all my repairs myself. Just got done soldering a line a plumber wouldn't do because he didnt want to work.

My employer just gave me and most others a $3 an hr raise and cut my health insurance cost in half because im seasoned and they cant afford to lose the old school guys.

The new breed thinks they know it all. Cant tell them nothing without them crying and they have no skills at being a man. They act like they are special.

Had google come hook up fiber at my house. They ruined my sheet rock and tried to hide it. They also drilled anchor bolts into my brick house instead of the mortor. Rule #1 Do not let anyone touch your house when your not watching them. #2 Do not let your wife handle anything besides laundry cause she will screw it up.

I keep a trusted contractor list for my clients. They love the list and it's now a go to resource for hundreds of people. Most of my contractors are also firefighters and police. Some are not but I trust them just as much. I hear back from clients routinely about the good service they provide.

Unfortunately for you they don't operate in Florida.

Welcome to the construction industry!!!! And expect that you should be privileged to have any contractor on a job and pay a premium for sorry ass work!! Been in the design and construction industry for 34 years and contractors have continually gotten worse and more arrogant!

Everyone paying tens of thousands a year to send their kid to a university to get some bs degree, or that let their kid sit on a couch every summer instead of getting a job, or bought and paid for anything and everything their kid asked for only has themselves to blame. Also, majority of people complaining about poor craftsmanship, or poor work ethic, are the same ones that get offended by a “construction “ worker making near what they do.

The thing that is missing in construction now is the pride of giving a hard days work and turning out a quality product. That has been replaced by a head count, volume day. There should be no shame in working construction. It had kept the lights on at my house for 30 plus years. But the wages are so depressed that there is no incentive to get in construction. The American taxpayers are subsidizing the illegal alien work force that are being paid untaxed under a federal tax ID loophole. They can draw max food stamps for every child they have born here as they are citizens. A young American can’t compete with the corruption.

That’s the correct way to do it. Drilling in the mortar is half assed and worthless as an anchor point but that’s what most of them do because it’s easier.

Had this same argument with my wife. She got pissed because I drilled the brick instead of the mortar. Drilling the brick is the right way.

Calling the BBB would be a complete waste of your time. Perhaps they had some sort of power or pull 50 years ago, but that time is LONG gone.

Yeah but if i remove it then i gotta deal with holes in my brick. I wanted it in my mortor just like everything else on my house. It holds fine and doesnt screw my brick up.

Depends on the anchor bolts. I would rather run my anchor bolt (if long enough to reach the CMU) in the mortar joint than into the brick itself. Of course I'm unaware of how big/long the anchor bolts you are talking about are.

My son has no interest in going to college so he went to trade school while in high school and got some certifications in air conditioning and refrigeration. He graduated high school on May 31st and went to work full time 3 days later making $13 an hour. My boy is a very hard worker and clean cut and respective of others. I have no doubt he will do very well and probably start his own business within 5 years.
