That’s badass! I couldn’t imagine what it must have been like to arrive on the beaches or those that parachuted in with the 82nd and 101st

I doubt those gliders were a picnic either. Those young men had to be terrified till they landed and some crashed.
They have one in the WWII museum.

Mine too. His brother went. He would never ever talk about it. Wouldn't talk even if you asked.

My great uncle fought with Patton. He died before I was born. But my grandfather said he told him Patton didn’t take any prisoners.

If anyone watched the ceremony this morning it was sad that there were only 300 survivors of that day in attendance. They also stated that there were more Canadians in that landing than any of the other Countries.

There's not many of them left and they will all be gone in the next 10 years or so. They were truly the greatest generation.

Your great uncle and my great uncle may have known one another as he also fought with Patton in both Africa and Europe. My great aunt is still alive at 96 years old. She threw away a Nazi flag my uncle brought home. She “wasn’t having that Nazi crap in her house”.

The President just introduced a 98 yr old Vet that won 4 purple hearts and several silver stars. They were a remarkable group of American men. It was also said of the first wave of landing craft 98% of the troops died on that beach. It fell to 80% died from the second wave. They charged straight into the face of death.God Bless those hero's!

My grandfather served under Patton also.
