Had parents suggest going to dicks for some softball equipment for my daughter. Drove 15 min farther to get it at academy.

They made a critical error. Some businesses do that. They screwed up. I am sure the guys in charge will land on their feet. the sales people on the floor will figure a way to move on, hate it for them but it is what is.

Maybe the guys that own Remington will buy them out if they don't go completely under and seal the deal.

The latest on Dick's is it is selling some of its Field & Stream Shops stores to Sportsman's Warehouse.

The general consensus is DSG is getting out of the outdoors industry altogether bit by bit as it can sell off stores in clumps. It has only 27 remaining stores after this sale.

Truth. There's one in Oxford about 5 mins from my house, I go in there occasionally to get something fishing-related, and I'm always the ONLY person in the store. This particular location has seemingly transitioned more and more of their space & inventory to baseball/softball, it's like half the friggin' store is just baseball crap. You can tell something is going sour, their fishing & hunting section has decrease substantially, they never seem to get new stock either. I used to get my Seaguar fluorocarbon in there because they were WAY cheaper than anybody else in town.... they ran out of it months ago and never have refilled the empty space, still just have empty pegs there. About a year ago they had a crap-ton of expensive, high-end fishing rods... I caught them on sale for like 50-65% off and they never have replaced any of that stuff.

All of us Weirdos stopped shopping there a long time ago. Didn't you get the memo?

When you see what is going on in this Country you have to realize that the ways we can fight back are limited to things as silly as not shopping at Dicks.

Why? Because people like us work. We don't have activist groups stirring up trouble for us.

We can protest at the polls and with our wallets. Not many more viable options for us.

I'll be glad to say I helped put Dick's out of business I haven't spent a dime in there in years and that Field & Stream store... I drive right past it to the way to Academy.

When I drive past Field & Stream on the way to Simmons or Marks I roll down my window and flip them off.

I said before the whole "not selling assault rifles" stunt was as much about getting rid of dead inventory as it was a cultural position. I doubt Dicks sold enough of those guns / ammo to even profit enough to pay for the inventory, it's definitely not their predominant clientele. Also probably has some to do with legal CYA maneuvers, I'm pretty sure lots of these retailers are concerned with being implicit in a lawsuit. So legal tells them they need to seriously consider getting out of the gun business....it's socially "cool" with their demographic, it moves dead overhead, and alleviates legal implications. That's just a guess. I'm betting if a substantial percentage of Dicks business was "assault rifles", they wouldn't have stopped. Like I said about the one near my house in Oxford, 1/3 of the whole store is youth baseball stuff, THAT'S what they're selling.
