I dug this up researching some other things but thought it was a fairly simple but accurate description of the problem with these planes.

Very clear explanation, one of the better I've read. Thanks for sharing. That had to be a horrifying feeling for those pilots doing everything right by the book but not being able to correct the problem. Betrayed by a machine. RIP to all the victims.

Just sit back and relax, leave the flying to someone else. The worst part of flying is getting through security and the boarding process. What airline you flying with?

The thing I take, from the whole mess regarding the new 737,is that Obama's EPA regulations forced many airlines to find desperate ways to cut costs.

I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

And thank God we don't. Can you imagine all flying and texting crashes?

The author tip toes around blaming anyone in particular but it's so blatant that heads should roll at both Boeing and the FAA for letting them get away with it.

I fly a lot and will never get on the 737 Max.
I will never trust it.
It should have never been built the way that it was.
Imagine a software system required to make it airworthy instead of the fundamental physical design itself.
It's crazy.

I was on a 787 Dreamliner on an overseas trip a few weeks ago and was not impressed at all with it either.
It has weird oversize very large windows that you cannot manually adjust with a pull down shade and you are burned slam up by the sun coming through.
And it is so unclear that you cannot see anything out of it - it is a strange blurred view that is very irritating.

And the seats were so close together and small that you practically become physically injured just getting in and out of them to get to the aisle.
I actually twisted my knee doing so. Took my knee until now to get back to normal baseline.

based on what I've read....the 30 second version is that Boeing built, basically, a completely new plane, but they didn't want to go to the hassle/time of getting it approved. So, to bypass that, they just passed it off as a minor variation of an existing plane.

If that is correct, heads should roll (both figuratively and literally)
