Let's just say I have thoroughly enjoyed watching my friends from Selma, now relocated to H'ville try to hunt turkeys in Jackson Co. I image that is a serious change in hunting styles.

Let's just say I have thoroughly enjoyed watching my friends from Selma, now relocated to H'ville try to hunt turkeys in Jackson Co. Hell, I don't enjoy it! I thought I knew what the heck I was doing after growing up killing birds in Mississippi and then Tennessee when I lived there...moved to Alabama and can't get within 70 yards of a dang Jackson County mountain bird!

Ha ha I was just the opposite i grew up hunting Jackson county birds and only killed a few and thought i just sucked as a turkey hunter then i started hunting Tennessee and the first bird I killed was 10 minutes after shooting light and it was running at me

just wanted to cover my @$$ on this one.... put this up there out of curiosity def not looking at trying to move in on anybody's territory. I've hunted a lot of places around the state and have my own opinons about on the best places to hunt, just curious to see what everyone else's thoughts were.

He's passed away now so I can say this. I knew a guy that used to kill way over his limit every year in Jackson County. On a good year he'd kill twelve or fifteen. Didn't use corn or anything, he was just that good. I'm not condoning what he did, but I still stand in awe of how good he was.

hahah yekrut, that place sounds loaded. i mean i have been on some good land before but not like that. at the most i have heard would be about 10-15 birds if that. avg i would say 4-6. you would be having to race or play paper rock scissors to see who got the chance at a bird lol

N2deer got to hear them one morning last year. They would tear it up on the limb. It took me 3 days but there was one less when I left that place.

Fooled with number one and two until finally killing number three. I have seen that happen a bunch of times. Have a few birds going good, then you hear a another bird in the distance. Before long he shows up and comes in.

I heard 11 different birds one EVENING right before dark just outside Camden in Wilcox Co several years ago......
best place I ever hunted was in Jeffeerson Co ....
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I can relate. Took me 4-5 years before I finally killed one at our farm. I can't count the number of birds I had just out of site at 50 yds that wouldn't come in 10 more yds cause they didn't want to come off their shelf or cross a gully, or go around a big boulder, etc. etc. I will say once I finally killed one it did get a little easier after that, but not much. After 20 years of turkey hunting (first 10 didn't hunt a lot) I finally killed my limit two years ago. 4 Jackson Co. birds and 1 Lee Co. bird. Killed 4 Jackson Co. birds last year too. My luck will probably end this season though.

Things must have changed around Auburn since I was in school there in the 70s. I never even heard one gobble, though one of my classmates claimed that he saw one cross a road in the national forest.
If'n I were gonna draw that 30 mile circle, I'd center it about halfway between Selma and Camden. But you ain't gonna find anywhere you can hunt there unless you are willing to spend a lot of money. I'd say it certainly has changed. This is the best area of the state I've seen. I would move the center of radius just north of Auburn though to include more of Chambers and Eastern Tallapoosa County. I've hunted some unbelievable property just outside of LaFayette.
