You guys wanting MLF to change its format, it ain't going to happen.
Besides, they may not be around for a second season or third season from what I'm told. What have you heard regarding this? Just curious.

Don't leave us hanging Clem. I wonder if it has anything to do with the rumors of Boyd buying Flw.

Because it is the most stupid, unwatchable, jumbled up garble of video ever. Literally, take the water and fish out of the equation, you've got the same video. Seriously, I don't even know what lake they're on, why this guy or that guy is fishing or not fishing, why there's 573 different names for it, or why they think anybody wants to watch 9 minutes of "Round 1" video in 15 second blasts of this hookset and weigh, then another guy's hookset and weigh, then another's hookset and weigh, it's just impossible to watch. Oh merciful Heaven, don't let these dookie heads buy (and ruin) FLW.

Make them catch a 5lb'er first. Then they can start counting the dinks. That would get interesting.

Ilkillbux I agree 100 percent with the post above as well as another similar post that Ben had. I tried watching some of the highlights of the past Smith Lake event on You Tube. Its terrible the most boring thing I have ever seen in my life. I'm watching thinking how can anyone stand 5 minutes of this.

You know, I like all the fish care rules MLF has (immediate release, below the bow release, can't touch the fish or person, etc), I would be a proponent for other trails adopting those rules. I just think their videography (and/or their ideas about what people like to see) is terrible, and their tournament structure is literally non-understandable. Selects, Sudden Death, MLF Pro Trail (or whatever the crap it's called), different guys fishing on different dates, just STUPID!!!!! I am passionately against MLF for THOSE reasons. I could watch an MLF video and have ZERO idea where the guy is and what he's throwing.
Things FLW does that are awesome-- Give an overview of the entire lake, explain where each guy is on the lake and why, very indepth footage of the immediate area/structure/cover being fished, the lure, the cast/presentation, the anglers actually talk about what/where/why/how they're doing, they'll stick with the same angler for several minutes and you get to see more than a zoom in on the hookset or the stupid-butt scales/weight, it's a lot of FISHING footage with little to no focus on sponsors or products.

I dont really watch the Cups or Selects on tv. I will watch the live streams of the Bass Pro Tour. I was actually out on Smith this past weekend fishing and ran across Gerald Swindle on the lake and watched him for a bit. I saw a bunch of other guys but my Tracker 175 with a 60hp couldnt keep up with their rigs.

I hate the whole penalty if the fish hits the boat crap. If it is an unscoreable bass (dink), they should be forced to have to drop kick it from wherever they are sitting and if they can kick it completely off the water, on top of a dock, on shore, into someone boathouse, etc, then they get 2 bonus pounds added to their total. If they miss and the fish hits water on the drop kick, then they have 2 pounds subtracted from their total. You know stuff like that to add some excitement. That would keep all the offshore guys from drop shoting 20 one pound fish like they are all doing.

Fished a small tourney on Logan Martin yesterday, if it were the MLF format we would have won easily. I bet we boated 30 between 1# & 1.75#. We just couldn't find the better ones.

Interesting, Clem. Does BASS and FLW welcome the prodigals back if that happens?
Have been told two things about "returning" if that were the case: some might be allowed to do so under whatever "legends" rule exists with BASS for their prior champs and/or AOY guys or other possibilities, and the second scenario is due to how all this departure happened (and when, late last autumn) they'd all be told "go requalify through the Open divisions if you want to come back." I don't know what FLW would do but I suspect they'd probably say if they have a check for deposits, come on. This is secondhand but that's some of the chatter. Will be interesting to see.

BASS and FLW die without the fishermen. MLF is killing the fishermen. We have a quandary.

BASS and FLW die without the fishermen. MLF is killing the fishermen. We have a quandary. Was talking with a friend last weekend and he pretty much said the same thing. Another said the lack of media impressions has been staggering overall, and for individual anglers who keep track. The person who told me this said he's looked at the tracking methods used for the TV shows, web content and individual impressions. Said some of the biggest names have had declines of 70 percent or more in media exposure since departing BASS. Again, secondhand talk but I believe people I talk with are reliable. Things are not going well.

I enjoy watching it but wish they would raise the minimum size to 2 pounds or do a format where the biggest 10 fish wins, or what ever the magic number is. That way, everyone would fish the entire event trying to catch the biggest fish. I don’t think anyone should get that excited about catching a 1 pound fish. A guy should be rewarded more for catching a 5 lb fish over someone else catching 5 one lb fish.

I think that it's the tournament bracket style format that makes for good TV, and increases the drama for each round. I think you can have that with a reduced number of fish to have the guys target bigger fish, and it still makes for good TV.
The other thing that we haven't mention is that with limited practice time (I think 1.5 days), it has to be harder to find the offshore places on a new body of water.
