Been considering buying an upper end AR. Looking at a Colt 6920 or may be a BCM M4.

Sig Sauer, to hell and back reliable.

Whatever suits you just tickles me plum to death.

Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?

BCM or Daniel Defense would get my dollar in that category.

With Colt you're buying a LOT of name and not necessarily higher quality parts. Noveske, Daniel Defense and several others actually use high end parts.

If you buy a high end barrel, receivers, bolts, internals, etc....and have them assembled by someone with the right training/certs/experience/tools, you’ll probably get at least as good as you could buy a complete gun fir, from any of them, for half the $. Now, unless you use all major parts from same maker, it’d then be ‘technically’ a ‘Frankenstein’, which can kill resale to many, but not so much if they have a clue and you document everything. Personal preference. Whatever facets are most important to you, are all that matters. Truth is; most are ‘Frankensteins’ anyway.....no matter where you buy it. Hardly anyone makes all their components, especially Colt.

I have a customer that used to be in the Memphis PD major gang unit. He was issued a bushmaster, but used a Noveske. He said he couldn’t tell a difference in his real world experience.

Add in the fact that there are only a few "manufacturers" that actually machine the parts and then just stamp them with the respective brands. There may be a few more or less than what this listing shows (it's from '09), but there's really no difference in most of the lowers

As long as it is in spec, then yeah there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of difference. Some brands, like Anderson, get a bad rap but it's mostly because their QC isnt as good as some others, which means they have a higher number of lowers going out out-of-spec. I have an Anderson and it's been a great one. I would trust my life to it.

If it were me, I'd call Cole Blackmon at Tactical Outfitters, tell him what my budget is and what my wants were along with the intended use, and have him build me the best gun possible within that budget. I would also ask him which components, if any, he would recommend upgrading from that original build, as money allows going forward.

Below $1000 today, SIG Tread

Over that, I don't think anyone comes close to POF

Man, I’ve seen what the cheap stuff will do. I don’t know how much you gain buying high end.

That's where I am. You very likely won't get your money out of it. My cheap ARs shoot really well. To each their own. I will say, I've shot AUs Daniel Defense and it is a really nice rifle.

I am a fan of YHM. Great bang for the buck. I did build up my son a AR from 22modsforall and goes click bang just fine.

If yankee hill could cut a chamber and throat concentric (or whoever they use), I might still have some of their stuff.

It's hard to beat an LWRC if you're wanting upper end. If your wanting bang for your buck go CORE 15.

That looks like a solid value from at least the specs.

Something that separates low end and high end ARs is definitely the trigger group that comes with them. My experience has been that most low end builds have a gritty/real heavy/long travel trigger vs a slick, lower poundage trigger for a little more money.
