I know with turkey hunting its pretty site specific but in your opinion what is the best area in the state for thunder chickens?

I haven't hunted it all by far, but you live in or next to the county that has the most I've seen out of the counties I've hunted. Counties I've hunted are Shelby, Jefferson, Greene, Sumter, Dallas, Bibb, and Tuscaloosa.

no debate, period - draw a 30 mile radius around auburn/opelika area. most turkey and easiest to kill.

agreed on the numbers around auburn... as far as easiest to kill not so sure. I had one privately owned place while i was in school there that dealt me fits. Hardest, but the most rewarding hunting ive ever done.

Now some places in Nebraska has lots of birds.

Well there damn sure ain't none in Escambia County!! I agree with N2DEER, Limestone and south Tennessee!! Easiest turkeys in Alabama to kill. LOL

Now some places in Nebraska has lots of birds. I will have to agree with that to a point. I have hunted one place in AL that had a crap ton of birds and that was last year. They were all off of the property I could hunt, but there were 20+ gobblers in that group gobbling if there was 1. TN used to be that way every day of the season where I was at. Nebraska has a ton of birds. Alabama birds are extinct compared to NE's population. Never seen so many stupid birds in all my life.

I would agree that there are a lot of turkeys around Auburn and they are relatively easy to kill for an Eastern. Probably not any better turkey population on average anywhere else in the state. I believe that, unlike big bucks, turkeys can be found in large numbers anywhere across the state but some properties just tend to hold more than others. That being said, if my life depended on killing a gobbler I would hunt southern Tn. around Giles Co. A ton of turkeys, big turkeys, more fields than woods and the turkeys just haven't seemed to figure out the difference b/w a hunter and a hen. By far the easiest Easterns to kill at least around these parts.
Hardest turkeys to kill- mnt. gobblers in Jackson Co. There is a very very good population and in certain areas, number of birds per 100 acres could stand with Lee Co. or anywhere else in the state, but the birds are smart and hard to set up on.
