I think the Marlin saga pretty much tells you all you need to know. Remington's problems run deeper than just the money.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Don't misunderstand my line above. I am simply saying we dont have time to go thru and break down the rest of the issues that Remington has.
Cerebrus, holding companies, and Remington exec's are absolutely responsible for lack of QC, poor product vision, poor morale, and making promises they couldn't keep to the hsv area and the state.
As one feller said, when you invite the vampires to dinner they stay till the bloods all gone, they dont bury the body.

Out of ten Remington 742 Owners I know of back in the 70's.....All but two were Jammo-matics.....Especially the 30-'06's: Damn spent hull would swell in the chamber....had to take a rod and drive it out of there. I was smart enough NOT to go that route....bought a model 700 in '77. The reason for that was not Remington's fault...The problem with the 742 was bolt rails that were not hardened and would wear out with a lot of shooting. That problem was fixed with the 7400. Cases will still hang on the chamber if not kept clean and lightly lubed to prevent rusting. Ummmmm.....didn't Remington manufacture the bolt rails....Engineering should have known this was a WEAR point. Never heard of a Browning BAR having chamber problems nor rail problems....

Crazy to believe the State gave them a 10 year income tax abatement.. I honestly don't remember a single person being upset about that. I agree, though, it stinks that some companies get special treatment.

And for the record im about as conservative as they come I just think it’s hypocritical. A tax break which brings industry and needed jobs to Alabama. Didn't work in the case of Remington. But its hard to argue the breaks given to the auto industry have not been great for Alabama and worth every penny.
