Interested in info about the area between Camp Hill and Lake Martin. When is the rut? What is the herd density like? Is most of the land in large tracts or small(under 1000 acres)?Thanks

I've hunted several different places in Tallapoosa County around Camp Hill. We now hunt north of Camp Hill in Dudleyville. Hunting is pretty good where we are and density seems to be decent. We saw lots of deer this year and tons of young bucks. Big bucks are around but you have to work hard for em. Of course its that way most places. The buck activity starts to pick up the first of January and generally gets better every week thru the end of season. It dropped off the last week at our place this year. As far as the tracts of land, there's all sizes. Lots of small tracts and 1000+ acre tracts. All in all we enjoy hunting down that way. Let me know if I can't answer anything else.

Thanks Hawg, speaking of hogs what about them. My little gang is going to look at some property next week that's supposed to be along the river. My buddies nephew killed a 120ish 8pt, a130ish 9pt and a 140ish 9pt in three days a couple of weeks ago. The only details I had was it was somewhere in Tallapoosa.

This year I leased a small piece of land in south Tallapoosa, on the south side of 280. It SUCKED. I'd recommend spending a good bit of time looking the area over before I committed.

Dog hunters galore.

We haven't seen any hogs on our place yet, but I know there are some not to far away. As far as dog hunting, its not as bad as it used to be in the area. We didn't see or hear any all season.

Why do you come from Boaz to hunt in Camp Hill? Seems like along way to travel for mediocre hunting. It's not prime land like Macon county or any of the black belt counties. I've hunted several places around Camp Hill and the only reason is because I can be there in 10 min. Just woundering.

I agree with some things. It will all depend on how the area around you is being hunted. I grew up near by and hunted in Camp Hill. Some pieces of land had good deer and others you could go all day and really not see much. Try to talk to another hunting club member or someone nearby. Rut is normal around mid to late Jan. and around the lake there were more deer. Decent size deer too. Hope this helps.
