There's no excuse for getting lost anywhere east of the Mississippi River.
We have no real wilderness here. Walk 1/2 hour in any direction and find a road.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

There's no excuse for getting lost anywhere east of the Mississippi River.
We have no real wilderness here. Walk 1/2 hour in any direction and find a road. Problem with that is folks tend to start curving and walking in circles.

Most people dont even know to carry the bare essentials of a compass, whistle, matches, topo map, etc. They think their phone will save them.

I almost for lost in Oakmulgee one time at dusk. My cell phone was a 15% and here I am trying to read my GPS map and figure out where the damn truck was...
From then on I carry a compass, topo map of the location, space blanket, matches, fire starter, toilet paper, extra snacks, water and bourbon in case I get lost.

Had a lady here in Chelsea run off a deep embankment a couple years ago, about 9:00 at night. Pitch black in the area she wrecked. She hit her head pretty good but also panicked and walked in the complete opposite direction of the road, deeper into the woods. Spent two nights in the woods, under a rock overhang before they found her. She probably was less than 300-400 yards from the road. Had she just stood still when she climbed out of the car, she more than likely would have heard a car pass by within 15 minutes, and known where the road was. The road was less than 20 yards from her car.

Almost had to spend the night unprepared in the Chattahoochee NF in N.Ga.
No light, matches, nothing. Got out literally minutes before total darkness.

Looks like an older feller that likes to hike. Hopefully he is just lost and will be found soon - but just maybe he went out on his last hike just the way he wanted to - similar I recall as many on here saying they'd like to go out recently.

It’s hard to get lost where he is missing from. But it is easy to get injured. Last few that were lost turned out to be injured and hunkered down until help arrived.

I read an article once that stated that a person cannot walk a straight line. He will either lean to the right or left and in the end walk in a circle. Which is why a lot people when lost will walk in a circle.
