I know this sounds crazy but is it possible to get a bottle of bad propane? Is that even such a thing? I started grilling some chicken wings tonight and threw them on the gas grill. I knew the bottle was getting low and it ran out about 5 minutes into cooking. I had a new tank in the basement so I swapped them out. The grill fired right back up but, believe it or not, it never would get hot. The thermometer never would get over 150° and even the flame wouldn’t get very big. I could hold my hand over the cooking surface and it never would start to burn. It acted like the grill was on low the whole time. It couldn’t have been air in the line because the line is only, what, 18”? Plus, like I said, the grill fired right back up. I have finally had to pull the wings off the grill and finish them in the oven.

Never heard of propane going bad. Is it possible trash got into the line when you swapped it out?

I have had the same thing happen, it seems lime the o-ring where the hose hooks to the tank was bad and the regulator wasn’t getting full pressure, but it has been a while. It could have had some trash in/at the tank valve.

I've had the same issue before. Swapped bottles and worked like a charm. So I don't know what to say. I thought it was bad gas to but could understand the pressure issue.

Tap on the regulator. I don't know why unless there's a pressure issue with the new tank but I've had the same thing happen and tapping on the regulator made it work......back when I had a gas grill.

Tank could've been overfilled not allowing propane to flow.

Tank has too much air. Open the vent screw until it spews gas.

This may be correct if it has a bleeder valve. If the valve wasn't open during filling, it may
have left a void in the tank.

I remember one time when I was a kid. I had this old crappy lawn mower I was using to cut grass to make a little extra money. One day the preacher rode by on a nice new 10 speed bicycle. He stopped to talk. He asked me if the lawn mower was any good. I told him, "It gets the job done." He asked me if I wanted to trade his 10 speed bike for the mower and of course i said, "Sure."

A couple of days later I rode by on my new bike enjoying the day and I see the preacher working on the mower so I stopped. I asked him what was the matter and he asked, "How do you get it started?" I said, "You pull on the cord about 10 times and the cuss and then pull on it about 10 more times and then cuss and then you pull on it about 10 more times and it usually cranks right up.

He looked at me and told me quite frankly, "I don't cuss."

I told him, "Preacher, you keep pulling on that chord and it will come back to you."

grin

I’ve got one of those too but usually cook wings in the gas grill because it’s faster.
