Has anyone done this? If yes, what kind of point did you use? Not talking about shooting them flying. I found a bunch of woodies and it should be pretty easy to get good shots on the water.

uh, somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it's illegal to shoot a duck sitting in the water. even with a bow.

Ringo- You can kill him on the water, under the water, walking on dry ground, and even sitting in a tree or on a log.
Elk- I've seen some heads that were bent wire looped around kinda like the petals on a flower. They give you a greater surface area for blunt trauma on head/ neck shots. These things were about the size of your hand.

I did check the waterfowl regs and hunting with a bow is legal.
I have looked at what I have and I have decided to use Grimreapers (sp). You can shoot them open or closed. I will let ya'll know how it turns out.

Saw a show a couple years ago where they were shooting mallards with bows. They had the decoys in real close and were shooting at the birds as they flared in...probably hit 1 for about every 10 shots, or so.

I killed 5 drake woodies total this weekend with my shotgun. All jump shooting. I think I found a couple great places to set up my blind and try the bow now. Shots will be a max of 20 yards. I think I can do it. I practiced shooting quite a bit this weekend and feel pretty good about the setup.
Next Sat just might be the day! I just need some good weather now.

I have already got a buddy to do that! He is banking on killing 3 drakes quick. He figures I won't hit one. LOL
But, there are tons of woodies on Portland Landing where I will be hunting. I just wish there were some mallards, pintails, gadwalls, and wigeon. Maybe we will some real cold weather before season goes out.

Because of the warm weather, I chickened out and took my shotgun. Will try the bow this weekend. Looks like much better weather.
I did get 3 drake woodies, 2 hen green wing teal, and one each hooded mergansers yesterday.
