If I sow some dutch white clover right now, will it grow?

The over seeding is called for in dec I over seed my deer pens in feb it frost in . Just over seed it it will come up I have been doing it for years Or you can till the ground pack it plant it and pack the seed down on top of the ground DO NOT DISK IN IT WILL BE TO DEEP

I'm convinced that the only way to grow clover is in my yard.

You can overseed right now with crimson and arrowleaf clover, but not the other kinds.

I was setting out 4new rows of peach trees, I wanted white dutch clover for ground cover because it does a good job of choking out alot of other stuff and it grows low to the ground, reducing need for bushhogging. I set out the peach trees last weekend and sowed the clover on well prepared ground. I did not disk it in, figured all the rain would get it in the ground well enough. Well see what happens.

Deer don't like red clover very much The state plants it on the side of the road and they don't pile up on the side of the road to eat it I only plant white clover 0 20 20 fertilizer heavy 500 pounds per acre it will be 14 inches tall all they can eat

First of all, crimson clover is not red clover. Secondly, deer do like crimson clover. I will agree they like less fuzzy leafed clover better. Red clover is a perennial, crimson clover is an annual clover.

And deer like red clover a lot better than crimson clover.

I've got about an acre of pure crimson clover planted right behind my house. It has been full of does just about every night since Christmas. They would filter through my field of cereal grains in the evenings headed up to the clover patch. I should have put an exclusion cage on it because they ate it down to a nub just about it. Its really perking back up now though with the warmer weather and rain.

Ive got three acres of crimson clover, the deer keep the field full of crap all the time. Never had any red but I know they like the crimson pretty good.

I think the fact that the deer do not touch the crimson clover planted on right of ways is a testament to the amount of food available in the woods when it's warm. They have nearly unlimited options to eat well away from human eyes. They eat crimson and arrowleaf like they're going hungry around my places.

Deer tend not to eat any forage when it gets gets stemy. Crimson comes up earlier and that's why it is included in deer mixes. White is a later growing clover and is better for a summer forage. The reason it grows best in your yard is because you take out the competition mowing the grass. If you want a good stand of white or variation of white, keep your fields cut low.

Also most houses tend to be built on top of heavier soils. I can grow a great stand of clover in my backyard because its clay soil with a decent layer of OM on top....Move a couple hundred yards away though and its sandy soil that doesn't support clover growth nearly as well.

so if you were going to plant a clover in the spring, which type would be best?

When I googled it, it said dutch white does best when planted in the spring because of the amount of moisture, it would allow it to get a good root system established. I did not plant it for deer food, I planted it as a ground cover in a new orchard.

That's my goto. It's tough spending money on clover in the spring though. It's a gamble.
