Well I finished with no deer. I let a pretty good 9 point walk on Saturday...just couldn't make him be what I was looking for. Didn't get my GF her first deer this year. We'll handle that next year! I took my niece's son hunting. He's had a rough year. His parents are going through a divorce and he loves to hunt. His grandfather on his father's side usually takes him hunting but hasn't found the time to take him this year. My niece called men and asked if I would take him. Of course I will! Picked him up one Saturday morning and headed to Macon County. His rifle wasn't sighted in so we took my son's rifle instead. We got settled in looking over a food plot. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/I6hKCIV.jpg) He's reading a book and i'm goofing on my phone when I look up and see the tail end of a deer crossing off the end of the field. Dang it!!!! We're a little disappointed...I'm mad at myself so I put my phone up and start paying attention. about 30 minutes later I look behind us and see a buck coming up the road behind us. I tell him and we get the rifle up in the window, safety off. I ask him if he can see it. He says he can. I tell him I can't see it anymore so if he has a shot to take it. Boom! Buck goes down on what ends up being a neck shot! We high five and celebrate! We get out of the shooting house and walk towards the deer. He bolts the rifle and picks up the brass. I asked him what it was. He says "I think it was a doe." I say " I don't think so but let's take a look". He was super excited when he saw the antlers. This was his second deer. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/SurDjw2.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/FQktFnp.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/AQIjUjp.jpg) I sent a picture to my son telling him that his rifle claimed another one and this was his response... ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/SsduQOf.jpg) We loaded it up and picked up my brother that was hunting with us that day. Cleaned the deer. Lots of celebrating with the other hunters and then a stop at the store for a celebration biscuit, snickers and Mountain Dew then off to the house so that his grandfather(my brother) can see the deer. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/TyffEKg.jpg) While we're looking at it we notice a lump on it's off side shoulder and actually find the bullet! I pretty unique trophy! ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/HMtNN5a.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/j0t7dRE.jpg) I go through all this to say that sometimes hunting becomes a chore for some of us and it's nice to see and feel it through the eye of a new or young hunter. It reminded me of what it should be like. These are the things that make my season! Now to start getting ready for next year!!!!
"I'm not near as critical about how big they are as I once was. Smiles are more important now! We will grow more deer." Jimmy G.
