30 30..cheap bullets. And thats all it takes. Main reason is it won't waiste meat like most bigger calibers. I never understood using a 300 win mag or 45-70 ect...to kill a deer to eat. Your blowin a quarter of it up man. Some men must be short changed in other departments so maybe a big gun makes them feel better π

My go to in this case is my Winchester 30-30 with see through scope mounts in case you need to hit them iron sights with 160g Leverevolutions. Used to use the rem core lockts and still keep a few leftoever in my bag just in case. I have never had a deer run more than 50 yards after hit with this set up!

308 is my choice. Have used core locks for years but seems like Alabama deer can take a bullet better than other places I hunt. Iβm gonna switch to ballastic tips next year. Hope to get better blood trails hard for me to track deer thatβs not bleeding much in pine needles.

Any caliber will work. But, I don't know why you'd choose a caliber where you'd be unable to take longer shots if your buddy invites you to hunt at his place and has bigger fields.

I have been using my Tikka .270 set up for western hunting. Literally blowing right through the deer and thatβs wonderful, but it seems to not have the knock down power as some of these Others everyone is speaking of. I have to get a little more in tune with my terrain Iβm hunting around here and find one that will do the trick.. Rememebr, if I have to track him them in this topography itβs a high chance of losing them.

.45-70 is NOT a meat destroyer. i've seen too many killed with it. medium hole in, somewhat bigger hole out. blood, blood, blood, blood ...
stob, i have an 1894 in .44. williams fire sights on it. i've not killed a deer with it yet. but with my 67.5 year old eyes, i'm afraid, i'll have to go to a lower power scope. i'm thinking a 2.5 X old school leupold or other, maybe even a scout set-up. i don't want to lose the little rifle's carry-ability ...

338 Winchester magnum. Works great well past 100 yards also. Don't forget the 5-25 power , 56mm super Hubble scope.

And the bonded bullets... gotta have at least a Partition that would clear nut to chin on an Elk for when you shoot them in the arse.

Not a lot of blood trailing needed. Had a bad experience with the 200 gr ballistic tip several years ago which blew up on a buck's shoulder at 20 yards so I made a switch.
