I lease 330 acres in Southern Illinois from a private landowner. 4 of us bow hunt only. We've killed (1) 150" deer in 6 years. The number of deer we see is unbelievable, but we don't see many 150 class deer. Maybe one a year and usually he is tending a doe on lock down. Chip shot with a 7mag but with a stick and string, we just have to glass him and wish him well. Northern Illinois or even Western Kentucky seem to offer better deer than Southern Illinois. My 2 cents.

I recommend southwest KY It is close and the big boys are there. Just have to be right place right time. I am sitting here looking at a B&C 201 gross/185 and change netI that I was lucky on 4 yrs ago on a 400 acre farm we stumbled upon Ask around co-ops farmers on the road, cafes in small towns. Keep asking in off season, small communities. Takes some leg work and asking around off season. I spent several days asking most were nice and said no. You just never know till you ask. Farmers do grow tired of out of state outfitters!!!! and the way they treat their land. Lots of farmers visit tractor supply on saturdays! The one we found we offered to do some free work if he would consider. He took us up on it.....Worked our tails off for 2 days in the spring clearing road limbs, his barn etc, leased his farm for I think 5 yrs. Nicest person you would ever want to meet. But you need that hunting ground close proximity to crop land. I am old, giving my secrets away. Good luck with your search......

This.
This was my first year having a lease in Kentucky, will definitely be back. Killed a high 40s 14pt, and saw several more big bucks. You wont be disappointed

Good places are hard to find but they do exist. Ky has some really good public land if you willing to work at it.

Thanks fellas. Very familiar and hunted all states I mentioned over past 20 years. Lost my Illinois property for this season. Not looking for 140 class deer. That’s an average three yr old where I have been hunting. Looking for top notch property And not afraid to spend money to get it.

Keep the leads headed my way

Come hunt my town you'll feel better about 125 inch deer than a 140 from yer 3ry old northern deer smile

Doubt it. I would just start playing tennis I believe. Glad I live where I do. My thirteen year old won’t flip the safety off on a 125” deer.
