Lost a new born calf today to buzzards. Filthy critters eat from the umbilical cord inwards. I was putting hay out when I seen the buzzards and the calfs mom trying to run the buzzards off. Calf was still limp and a barely warm but dead. Looked like she dropped the calf and was cleaning up the afterbirth when they got the calf.

They will kill every newborn they can get to. We have what I’ve heard called Mexican buzzards and they don’t wait for something to die. Don’t know if that’s a real name or not but seems like they have been worst the last 20 or 30 years than ever. The three sss work great on them.

Several years ago we had some very aggressive buzzards that were going after newborn calves near me. Farmers got permission from state to theake them out. Seems like it's learned behaviour that's in some specific groups of buzzards. If they were after my calves I'd deal with them with or without permission

We tracked a deer last week. We started tracking 830am lost it in the creek. Found it by buzzards at 415 I’ve never had them on one that quick. When we found the deer they had took the eyes out eat a hind quarter and busted the guts.

I shot a deer and left it laying while my buddy finished his hunt. It was within 1 hrs and the buzzards were trying to get him.

A 22-250 will make a cloud of feathers out of a buzzard. Fellow told me it’s a federal offense but I swear I saw one just sitting on a limb and go poof for no reason at all. There is a flock of about 50 that roost on a swamp here in Opelika and no one has to worry about a deer carcass or road kill stinking up anything. I put a game camera in a deer carcass to see if any coyotes would come around but those dang buzzards looked like piranha in a feeding frenzy. I’m surprised they didn’t eat each other.

Once they start killing calves, they'll keep doing it.
When I lived in Troy, there was a guy who owned some land near Goshen. He was a sorry excuse for a cattleman. He had a pasture full of inbred Charolais cattle. Two and 3 years of calves in the pasture with the cows. Anyway, the farm was across the road from one of the chicken farms I checked on. I was at that chicken farm one day and saw a cow trying to calve. The buzzards were sitting all around her. As soon as that head appeared they got the eyeballs of the calf. They then started in on the cow around the calf's head. That caused the cow to prolapse, then they started pulling the whole repro system out of the cow and eating it and just got worse from there. The chicken grower took out his deer rifle, shot from his place, across the dirt road and shot the cow in the head to put her out of her misery.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

When we found the deer they had took the eyes out eat a hind quarter and busted the guts. On Christmas Eve several years back I killed an 8 point on a greenfield a little after 12 pm one day. He hadn't been laying there dead 15 minutes when the buzzards started messing with him. If they happen to fly over and see it laying there they are going to go for it.

We had issues with buzzards years ago with calves this is the first time in about 8 years on our place. Neighbor about 2 miles from me had had some buzzard s kill new borns in the last year or so. It went still born my uncle seen the calf moving right after it was born when he driving down the road by the field(the road separates my pasture from his pasture. I would consider making a holding pen near your home for momma until she get's the calf raised up a few months. You can't bring every cow home to watch it calve as stress from moving or working cows will cause them to lose up to 15% of their body mass and could stress the cow into calving to early. It would be nice to watch some first calf heifers as they came in but in this case it wouldn't have mattered because judging from the time my uncle saw it and the time I was out there looked like i was about 30-45 mins to late which would have put me driving down the interstate on my way home from work when it happened

Didn't know they would be aggressive like that. Makes sense though. Dang things are nasty.
