Was quoted $40 ton on poles and $25 ton on saw timber. Does this sound right?

Probably right but that's low.
"Cull" is just another four letter word...

Get more than 1 bid and get a price from the mill themselves if they’ll bid

A relative is doing a little better than that on a cut in Wilcox Co. right now, but timber prices will always vary by location

Also make sure the specs on the timber are the same (butt sizes and top sizes).

We got 42.00 for small poles and 54.00 for larger poles last year I believe. I'd have to pull the contract, but saw timber is way down.......

Yeah it's tough to stomach. They said $21 ton on small poles.

That’s pretty good for south Mississippi. There isn’t much competition down there.

Depends entirely on location- can vary as to what part of the County you are in, etc. I’m assuming in SE MS any poles are going to New Augusta so distance to that mill is important (could be others but I’m aware of that mill). My gut tells me that’s not bad given the market especially the saw timber price. For a much different prespective last week we were offered $13/14 a ton for pine pulp but ONLY if we clear cut. If just a thin- didn’t get final offer but was going to be less than $10 if interested at all- equipement was nearby was only reason getting any interest I might add. This was is Greene County-and if in different part of county that price would certainly change

Conway in New Augusta doesn't peel poles any more. They have to go to Wiggins. My place is about 8 miles north of New Augusta. It's at Runnelstown.
