Apparently wardens stopped by our club last weekend and wrote one of the guys a $250 ticket for hunting over corn.
Interesting part is they gave one of the guys a written warning for having a loaded rifle (mag, not one chambered) in the back floorboard of his truck. Said the only reason it was a warning and not a ticket was because it was only the mag, the chamber was empty. I thought there was nothing illegal about a loaded rifle in the truck as long is it wasn't on a WMA. This was private property.
One of the wardens also told my FIL that they'd gone through the cooler in the back of his truck to make sure he didn't have any beer in it.....is that legal for them to do that and why the hell would've it mattered if he did have beer in the cooler as long as it wasn't opened.

I have ALL kinds of problems with the warning ticket and checking for beer in my cooler. Good way to tote a beat down if I'm not guilty of any game violations. Seems like another over reach similar to roadblocks to see who's been hunting.

Loaded gun and searching the cooler is BS in my uneducated law opinion. I'd love for one of our resident state folks to chime in or someone who knows the letter of the law.
IMO this is just more heavy handed over policing.

My cooler has a lock. It’s been debated before on if drinking while hunting was illegal or not. Not sure anyone ever got to the answer on the legality, only remember the moral aspect being discussed.
And what if the cooler had beer but the guy had no gun he was just taking a dump in the woods.

Funny you mention that... apparently one of the game wardens was telling them how long they'd been observing them that morning and told one of the guys they watched him move the tractor and saw him taking a dump earlier that morning. That part, in particular, just seemed weird (and a little creepy) to me.
