Matt 4:1 - Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil.
God does not tempt anyone with evil - Jas 1:13
Therefore, in the model prayer, Jesus is telling us to pray not to be led to a place where the devil will tempt us.
The pope has no biblical authority for ANYTHING. If that were such an important position, I would think that God would have at least mentioned it in scripture...
That's the whole problem with building a doctrine based on a few words in a few scriptures. Suppose that in your example the very seemingly insignificant "to be" phraseology was misplaced or wrongly added by the translator. It might be that "and was" would be a better fit and would not include the connotation as "to be."
That may not be the case at all but it should be an example of what the Pope is trying to do,which is to be true to the Word of God as much as possible rather than your tradition of how many preachers have claimed that for how many years.
