I'm looking for a new pair of pliers and and wanted to see what you might recommend. I've had bad luck with the cheap stuff and I want a better quality pair without breaking the bank. The choices on tackle direct are overwhelming. Things I would need in a pair are at least 7" length, saltwater/corrosion resistance, braid cutters, split ring capable, and a good material. I've ruined my last 2 pairs because due to them being cheap aluminum, so I think it's time to invest in a better pair.

People actually pay $300+ for needle nose pliers?? Check out the prices on their reels. Checkout Zeebaas too. They're similar.

I'm guessing the little tit on the end of the pliers nose is what the split rings are opened with? If so, does that not get in the way of taking hooks out of fish?

I don’t like the combo pliers for that reason. They do seem to get in my way. I have a set of pliers and a separate set of split ring pliers for that reason.

Fur, I didnt use split ring pliers until a few years ago when I started fishing spoons at dams. I lose so many that I started buying spoon blanks in bulk to save money. I buy the split rings and hooks separate and put them on myself. I go through quite a few every year and this gets me in them at a dollar or less vs buying them at anywhere from 3.50 to 8 bucks a pop. I often fish them close to the bottom and that's when I lose them. And yes the thing on the end is what opens them. On previous cheaper pliers the split ring thing gets bent easily and I've considered just getting a separate pair deticated to rigging my spoons. I very well may do that. The problem with them as far as hook removal goes is just bending when it's a soft aluminum cheap pair.

One thing about fishing close to or on the bottom, especially down below the dam at Guntersville, is that you're gonna lose (or is the accepted aldeer spelling now loose) lots of terminal tackle.

I use split ring pliers riggin in tha ochun now..befor that.. I just used ma poket knife an needlenose pliers.

I have a set of split ring pliers. And had a pair made like a leather man with longer needle nose a friend gave me. They are in the bottom of the lake and I’m trying to find another pair like them.

Bubba's will work in the salt according to the interweb. Some places have good reviews and some have bad for the bubbas. What's your budget? I ended up picking up a pair of the ego titanium pliers on a black Friday sale. I would highly recommend. I'm very pleased with them.
