We built a rock crossing across Alaqua Creek south of DeFuniak Springs several years ago using busted up concrete sidewalk pieces, it was about 40' wide, it still works great. We did have to get a permit from NWFWMD first.

I think 2Dogs got this right.
I have not been around many creek beds that were deep enough I could not use some combination of culverts and digging to make this work. All the rest of them I went around somewhere else.
It gets down to are you talking about a creek or a river and a ditch or a gorge? Bridges big enough to drive heavy equipment across are not economical. Little ones to get a 4-wheeler or maybe even a truck or small tractor across are a different story. When you start talking about a rail car you are talking serious money. I can dig 1/2 way to china and as wide as the Mississippi river for what that cost. That would buy several huge concrete culverts and a lot of rock.
If it is 40 ft deep build a new road somewhere else. It's not 40 foot deep,more like 15 deep and 25 across. The problem is the volume of water that flows through in a big rain. Both creeks I'm needing to cross with come out of the banks after a few days of rain. That's really hard on rip rap and culverts. The county had a giant culvert in one of the creeks and it has blown out multiple times. Gets expensive rebuilding a crossing every few years. I realize the rail car is expensive to move and put in place. That's why I was hoping someone knew where we could find one cheap. I've seen them used for log truck crossings in several places and it sounds like some of y'all have seen them used as well. This makes me believe that somebody has found them and a way to move them in place at a price that makes sense.

We have one on our property that has had many loaded trucks and bulldozers cross it. Our landowner is Delaney. Maybe you can call their offices and see where they buy theirs. They have a lot of property and I'm sure they buy a lot of them.

We have one on our property that has had many loaded trucks and bulldozers cross it. Our landowner is Delaney. Maybe you can call their offices and see where they buy theirs. They have a lot of property and I'm sure they buy a lot of them. I have a friend who is a forester for Delaney. I'll call and ask him. Thank you

I know of a landowner that just put in a long flat railcar for a bridge. It cost him $16,000 when he was finished. The contractor that put it in is Jordan Forestry from Conecuh Co. They used a big dozier and a big track hoe to put it in. Works great and has held up for several floods.
