Alright so I am at a loss here. I have been hunting this place all year I have great pics and see amazing sign of deer. Both rubs and scrapes. I have pics on foodplots in pines and hardwoods. But I have yet to see one while hunting in about a month! I wash my clothes and dry them in scent free detergent and dryer sheets. I store them in a scent lok bag. I spray myself religiously as I get dressed in layers. I am taking the advice of the older members in the club and hunting where and when they say because I am at a loss for words on what to do. I have hunted plots pines and hardwoods as our property is 80% hardwoods. I even put out tinks 69 scent bombs both doe p and estrus since the rut started here about 3 days ago. What do I do? I thought about getting a decoy loading her up with estrus and trying that. And just to put this in perspective I have put in many hours scouting through the summer and fall and even the last few weeks. But I am dumbfounded by the lack deer I see. And other members are killing good bucks. What am I doing wrong? Thanks guys

Nothing... Nothing you can do. Thats just the way hunting goes. Sometimes you see them and sometimes you don't. Been hunting 25 years and been through the same thing. Watched other guys kill them while you don't. When its your time it will happen.

Fair enough. But the point I was trying to get across is that I have been after them so long that I have resorted to other tools but nothing is working. And I have turkeys in front of me and they are feeding so im doing something right I guess. The deer just aren't here I reckon. This afternoon im gonna hike into the thickest nastiest place I can find and go about 50 ft up lol.

I have hunted my little place all yr, have seen only 5 deer on it, my brother has seen 0 on the same place. One of the 5 was the 10 I shot a couple weeks ago, just luck sometimes (or lack there of). I was in the stand for about 10 minutes when I shot the deer, have hunted hours and hours just looking at the grass grow in my plot.

In your original post you mentioned hunting when and where the oldtimers in the club say. Remember they want to kill deer too and they may see you as competition.

Get downwind of the nastiest ugliest thicket you can find and sit tight.

Are you taking extra precautions to not contaminate the woods by going in on the wrong wind. Some guys only think about the wind once they get in the stand. They don't think about what the wind is doing to the deer they are trying to hunt while they are going in and out. Keep the wind in your face as much as possible or don't hunt that area. Limit your scouting this time of year. Pressure is what kills most clubs. Everybody thinks they have to know where all the latest scrapes and rubs are. Do only perimeter scouting on the way in and out. These are a few things that might help.
