bass pro's knockoff version doesn't even attempt to hide that its a knockoff of R2S

BPS, Cabela's (previously), Academy, Field & Stream Shops and others blatantly knock off lures, reels and other gear, and then will shrug when a company says something and keep right on doing it. They'll take a Shimano reel, for example, overseas to China and have it copied but tweak the cosmetics. It looks almost exactly like the Shimano but has the F&S or Academy or BPS branding on it along with a lower price point.

Those giant chains know a smaller company, even if it's an established one like River2Sea, rarely will come after them with a lawsuit. Or they will make the BPS "Chopper" Topwater just barely legal enough to meet the threshhold of not infringing on the patent but it's obvious what it is and who they're copying.

It's a chitty cut-throat business.
