I have a buddy who has a lease in Pickens County. He uses a deer processor in Lamar County. When he takes his deer to this processor he travels Highway 82 west and goes into Mississippi. He then gets off on the Stokes Road exit and gets on back roads that take him back into Alabama and to the processors place. He asked me the other day if he could get a ticket with this new regulation. I told him in my opinion, yes, he could get a ticket from the DCNR in Mississippi. But I didn't want him to decide on his future actions based on my opinion so I called Mr. Chris Smith at the Alabama DCNR office in Montgomery and posed the situation to him. He told me that Mississippi had the same laws/regulation about crossing state lines with a deer carcass as Alabama has.

Long story short, he said my buddy either needed to find another processor in Alabama to use or he needed to find an alternate route to get to his current processor that would keep him on Alabama roads so that he never crosses into Mississippi with his deer. He said that he could get ticketed by the Mississippi DCNR.

So, I'd say the answer to your question is no, it is not legal for you to do so. If you have doubts call Montgomery and get an answer from someone there to your question.

Matt, not trying to be rude, but I'm Pretty sure you aren't preventing anything. It's already here and has been. Probably for a long time. U test enough deer you are going to find it somewhere.

My opinion on cwd is no secret and it's an opinion. Just like everything your bosses put out.

So while myself and every other hunter is still battling road hunters and night hunters and corn throwers ect ect, apparently the TWRA and DCNR thinks they should be doing this. Ive seen them do this 2 years ago on the state line here. Was laughable really. While the tennessee wardens was standing in the back of their trucks I was having to patrol my own land for road hunters. And yes, the Bama wardens are right across the line doing the same.

I heard by someone that called the State office it was up to $10K. I would not want to be the one they make an example of though.

This is total garbage!! It’s going to get here and there’s not a damn thing we can do about it. The biggest threat to ALdeer is the way to liberal harvest limits. Look at CWD confirmed states like KS. Their population and overall hunting is 100X better than ours. CWD has not hurt their herds. Crap like this and the “If it’s brown, it’s down” mentality of hunting in this state is driving hunters to other states. Hell, I’m seriously considering giving up AL hunting and you g exclusively out of state. I know several that already have.

Based on that assumption, the Texas herd should be wiped out by now. Yet both the whitetail and mule deer population and range continues to expand. And more deer are being harvested each year.

I had no idea there we so many guys on here who have wildlife biology degrees and study epidemiology?

Leave it to the experts who's only interest is protecting the deer herd. They ain't doing this to inconvenience you, if you consider deboning a deer an inconvenience.
