Looks like a Whopper Plopper, but only $9.99. Anyone got one or seen one? I knew someone would copy it, I'm surprised it took so long. Maybe the real ones price will drop now. Either way they won't remain as effective when the fish see them everyday. If you were around when buzzbaits first hit the market you understand what I mean. Heck, when buzzbaits were new even bream tried to eat them on almost every cast.

Would be hard to think River2Sea doesn't sue them for infringement, if R2S has a patent, similar to how Z-Man sued others who copied the Chatterbait. Like you, though, I'm not surprised someone knocked it off.

Clem it has received some good reviews too. The small Whopper rolls instead of making the desired noise. The Choppo is supposed to act properly. You can bet i'll order several before any lawsuit gets them jerked off the shelves.

The tackle industry is the biggest bunch of copy cats out there. Very little innovation and creativity in the industry. Someone comes out with something different and good and immediately the others jump on the bandwagon.

Thing is, it's across the board on copycatting. Big, small, regions, whatever. Happens regularly. Berkley's introductions in 2017 at ICAST included so many knockoffs it was unreal. They may have had the "20 percent' change or whatever to technically avoid a patent lawsuit but they were blatantly copies.

Perch, I don't care for the small plopper to be honest. I haven't been able to get the retrieve speed locked in correctly.

Yep. I would think the price of whopper ploppers should come down some now. Ive got a few of them, but dang if they aint overpriced. However, I got on some schooling bass one evening at guntersville and what they wanted was a whopper plopper. I caught 30 or so 3lb bass in about 2hours. Right then they were well worth every penny.

Ploppers won't decrease in price. R2S has them priced as a premium item and won't lower that price just because of cheap-ass knockoffs.

BPS, Cabela's (previously), Academy, Field & Stream Shops and others blatantly knock off lures, reels and other gear, and then will shrug when a company says something and keep right on doing it. They'll take a Shimano reel, for example, overseas to China and have it copied but tweak the cosmetics. It looks almost exactly like the Shimano but has the F&S or Academy or BPS branding on it along with a lower price point.

Those giant chains know a smaller company, even if it's an established one like River2Sea, rarely will come after them with a lawsuit. Or they will make the BPS "Chopper" Topwater just barely legal enough to meet the threshhold of not infringing on the patent but it's obvious what it is and who they're copying.

It's a chitty cut-throat business.
