Good info by all. thumbsup
Ive got several people trying to get me on the rage bandwagon, but Im going to stick with what works for my set up. My problem is Im shooting a short draw, low weight bow, a 27" Outback maxed at 60lbs. I feel that my 5575 gold tip xt's just don't have enough momentum to push those wide cut expandables through a big deer, especially on angled shots. A xx78 2213 on the other hand probably would.

Best Advise: Put the shot in the Boiler Room and it doesn't make a damn what broad head you have! you'll find the deer within 50 yards of where you shot it from. Practice and make the shot!!

Um, I think we are talking about Alabama whitetails. Not moose, elk, or 280# midwest whitetails. The average Alabama doe probably weighs in around 100#s, the average buck about 150#, and a monster will approach 200#s. (Yes, there are some deer in Alabama over 200, and there is a chance to win the lottery in Georgia or FLorida. But I'm not expecting either one).

If we were talking about shooting things into animals that weighed over 200#s, I'd likely have a different opinion on broadheads. But for this discussion, we aren't.

If you make a crappy shot, you'll probably have crappy results, regardless of the broadhead. I've never seen a person make a great shot on a deer with an expandable and then have a bad result, or see the broadhead fail to the point of not finding the animal. I have seen people make crappy shots on animals, claim it was a great shot, then blame the broadhead when they had trouble finding the deer.

If you are shooting a full length/weight arrow at or above 250 fps, you should do fine with Rages. If you are shooting a slower arrow (due to bow design or draw weight), a small diameter fixed blade is the best bet IMO.

Every year deer are shot and lost with bows and guns. It is a lot easier for someone to claim that the broadhead or bullet failed than to say they screwed up and made a bad shot.

Just watch any Drury video and that will answer your questions. No they dont all pass through but no broadhead ever does. Amazing broadheads from my experience.

We also noticed another trend last season, when this same topic up. About 90% of the deer wounded and not recovered by AlDeer members, was shot with an expandable, and most of them were using Rage.

I will give you credit for, at least, part of your observation. That is, I say they're junk and I have never used them, because I think they're junk, and I won't use shoot junk.

I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

I lost count of the deer I've killed with Muzzy and not ever had one fail to pass through. Maybe I'm just lucky. I realize it could happen tomorrow, it ain't happened yet.

New Rage shooter.

Shot a doe this afternoon at 44 yards. I used the 40 yard pin and hit her right were her front leg comes into her chest. The arrow broke her front leg and was a complete pass through. It made a good bloodtrail but I didn't push her tonight on a marginal shot. I'll be there first thing in the morning to trail her. I'll post the Rage results given I find her. Right now I'm a bit disappointed that the blades bent on a $15 broadhead after one shot.

I am seeing a pattern here people taking $H!T shots with the Rage hoping that the BIG holes they make htey'll find their deer/game..If the exit hole came out it's A$$ where is the entrance hole the stomach?

No, it wasnt a pass through. Caught part of the lung and worked its way out there. It was a broadside shot.

Could be.It was my first with a bow. I thought it was a complete pass through because i couldnt see my arrow as it ran off.I could see it bleeding from the hole though.

I found my arrow about 50 yards later completely covered in blood to the nock. I figured maybe it pushed out there as it ran.

I hit further back than i would have liked. Maybe it hit the back rib and deflected. I did hit a lung i know from when we gutted it.

Congradulations on your first bowkill.

I can't give anybody schit about their shooting, cause I ain't shot one this year!

I can be critical of your choice of broadheads, but I can't criticize your shooting. wink

I shot 1 deer with a 2" rage and will be happy to give you the other 2 broadheads. I was saving them for a coyote or something I don't care about. I lost the buck after a 13 yard slight quartering away shot, it lodged in the opposite shoulder. I didn't mean to hit the shoulder but it happens, thats why I went back to thunderheads and muzzys.
I shoot a bowtech patriot 70lb 28" draw and radial x weave shafts. I waited 3 hours before tracking only to find a marginal / inconsistent blood trail that just ended after 250 yards. Went back next 2 mornings, no deer no buzzards.

Killed #2 with the Rage 3 Blade This morning. Hit him in the front part of the ham and the arrow lodged in the opposite shoulder. The deer ran 25 yards. His inside were tore up. The arrow basically split the opposite lung in half. Massive internal damage. My wife is picking me up another pack from her store (Academy) as we speak. I'm sold on them!!

I know this thread is about Rage broadheads, but I've got to put a plug in for Rocky Mountain 2 blade Snypers (they are basically the same broadhead). They've got a little less cutting width than the rage, which may explain why I've got a pass thru on 29 of the last 30 I've kilt. Had a pass thru on a 200 lb hog Wednesday. I've had muzzys not pass thru, G5's pass thru and not find it, the list goes on. Just as stated earlier, it boils down to a good shot. But I believe with the decreased cutting width of the Snyper, pass thru's are more common.

I will be glad to take those broadheads off of your hands. Should I pm you my address?
