Um, I think we are talking about Alabama whitetails. Not moose, elk, or 280# midwest whitetails. The average Alabama doe probably weighs in around 100#s, the average buck about 150#, and a monster will approach 200#s. (Yes, there are some deer in Alabama over 200, and there is a chance to win the lottery in Georgia or FLorida. But I'm not expecting either one).
If we were talking about shooting things into animals that weighed over 200#s, I'd likely have a different opinion on broadheads. But for this discussion, we aren't.
If you make a crappy shot, you'll probably have crappy results, regardless of the broadhead. I've never seen a person make a great shot on a deer with an expandable and then have a bad result, or see the broadhead fail to the point of not finding the animal. I have seen people make crappy shots on animals, claim it was a great shot, then blame the broadhead when they had trouble finding the deer.
If you are shooting a full length/weight arrow at or above 250 fps, you should do fine with Rages. If you are shooting a slower arrow (due to bow design or draw weight), a small diameter fixed blade is the best bet IMO.
Every year deer are shot and lost with bows and guns. It is a lot easier for someone to claim that the broadhead or bullet failed than to say they screwed up and made a bad shot.
