Fixing to walk in to a logging road between a bedding and feeding area. It’s not much area between them so I got to do some slipping. I have already seen this buck 3 days ago. He is a shooter. Now if I can get him to cooperate a little. It’s 20 degrees with 3 mph winds out of the east.

Long day today. I shot this 10pt at 6:45am. The deer did nothing I wanted it to do except get within shooting range. I was up the chittiest tree in Ohio and he was coming almost straight on and was on me before I could stand up. If I would have stood up the tree stand would have popped or he would have caught my movement. He was almost down wind and I was getting a little excited. So at 13 steps he stopped and acted like he was going to turn to my right and I couldn’t shoot that way and especially sitting down. So I made a bad decision and shot him facing me with his head down through his neck on purpose. I got about 12” of penetration and he ran about 20 yards and stopped. He acted like he wanted to bed down, but continued to walk very slowly and made a complete circle around me out of range till he was out of sight. He eventually went back the way he come from and I lost blood. Total tracking yards was 350 yards and the first 100 yards looked very promising. Here is a picture of the buck and the blood trail. I know what I did wrong and should have known better. I have killed close to 150 deer and still make mistakes.

We are seeing a ton of deer, but nothing worth shooting. We noticed today more people killing deer. We went by the slaughter house and a few good ones was killed today. I seen 7 does and a spike this afternoon. I did finally find some big red oak acorns. It looked like a pig pen under them. First acorns I have found and I have walked miles.

Does anyone know what this is? This is what the deer are eating in the wet bottoms close to the creeks up here in Ohio.

We were waiting for the rain to quit before we go this morning. However the rain has turned to snow, so we are going to hunt from 11 till dark. We are finally on a hoss, but he is with a doe. We seen him yesterday bedded down with her. We are going to climb on the very top of a hardwood ridge were they bed at and hope for the best. If we can get lucky and kill this one it would be awesome.

I got a signal somehow on top of this ridge. I haven’t seen anything yet. One of buddies has been sick and hasn’t hunted in 3 full days. However he finally ran into a farm owner that has granted us permission to hunt there land exactly were we have been wanting to hunt. Bad thing about it is we are about out of time and I can’t scout anymore. I guess we could scout hunt it tomorrow afternoon. We have already seen a huge buck on the property from the road. They said they had a big 12 & a big 10 that has been chasing does the past couple of days. The rut is just starting and we have one more day to make it happen. Well I forgot I’m in the tree now and plan on getting this wall hanger I seen yesterday around 2pm. So I typically I got 1 1/2 day left. This is rough hunting, but a hell of a lot better than Higgison Henry in Kentucky that I went to last year. I will be back up here, but I will come Nov. 11-21 next time. The processor told me that Nov. 15th the bucks are always full rut. Funny thing about that is the most bucks in Bankhead start chasing the 15th depending on where your at in Bankhead. Ok I got to get to calling, maybe here shortly I will have a heck of a story. Here comes the turkeys and I didn’t buy turkey Permit. slap

Not bad at all due to the amount of land. I have been walked in on once so far.

That big SOB run a doe by me at 3:34 at 60 yards. I stopped him with a grunt but he wasn't leaving her. Maybe he will keep running her. He is a nice one.
