As we speak I’m clearing with a large skid steer 112 hp 13,000# and a D6K 120 hp 30,000#. E are on job right now. Been running both here for weeks. With about the same hp the 13,000# machine will spin out when you engage a tree or start a hard push. The same hp, geared lower, over 2xs weight will push over the tree.
Skid steers are designed and built to be a Swiss Army knife on a construction site. Not a land clearing or dirt moving machine. I’m sure you like your skid steer but you have no idea what you’re talking about comparing it to a dozer

That being said, a D6 is a whole lot more than a D3 or even a D 5. Try moving a D6 with a pickup. Apples to oranges.

Each has its place but I suggested dozer and trac ho however I've never been on a trac loader so outback and jake prob right on the just "1" piece but skid steer ain't gonna do jack compared to decent size dozer we have trac hoes dozers and a skid and I like the skid better but not for movin a lot of dirt

Skid steer has a Dozier beat all day. Might not push huge trees over but it is the best at probably 99% of clearing desires. This machine with a tooth bucket is great for cleaning debris, clearing small trees and brush, digging dirt, road grading, water breaks,......... you can move it with a pickup and 12k trailer. Rubber tracks. I could go on but I have been clearing and doing site prep for a number of years. This achine combined with a small track hoe of similar size are dynamite. If you have a large enuff trailer, both can be hauled. Plus a skid steer has a plethora of attachments. I would hate to know I had to use a skid steer to build and crown roads compared to using a dozer. The OP has several options depending on what his budget and time frame are which I havent seen mentioned. Is he talking about having $30k to spend on equipment, or $130k. A good operator will do more in a week than a inexperienced one could do in a month. Ive worked on all types of dirt and construction equipment and played on it as a weekend warrior for a lot of years and I still cant do what someone who runs it every day can do with it.

Rent an excavator and/or a dozer for month. It will be money well spent in helping you decide what you want or need. Great advice if you are not exactly sure what equipment you want to purchase. Rent a track loader for a couple weeks, rent a dozer for a couple weeks, rent a skidsteer/etc... You'll soon learn what would be the first priority purchase for you based on your skill at operating and budget and property demands. Would be $$ well spent on education. Then go find a killer deal on the equipment you want to buy.

A dozer is difficult to learn to operate. Small dozer are most difficult for many reasons. Bigger is always better except when it comes to transporting. The 350/D3 size machines are designed to dress topsoil around houses and on slopes. They are not dirt pushing or clearing machines. I think you would be disappointed with that size dozer.
Like others have said rent before you buy. It very well may convince you that you really don’t want to own. A skilled operator can do many, many times the work in a day vs someone still learning. Part of the learning process is also breaking some expensive parts. Hire a good operator- expect to pay $20-30/hr and get them to teach you how to operate. It is much harder than it looks. Just a few little basic operating tips from a skilled operator makes all the difference in the world. Not only difficult and expensive, also dangerous
A JD 350 is tiny and not comparable to a D3 . D3C should be bout 75 HP and 17, 000 pounds or so. I was always told , nobody can teach you how to run a dozer , best way is to get out where you are away from buildings , trees and such and go to it. JD hasn't made a 350 for several years, maybe as far back as 80's. A 350 is tiny. About 40 hp and 10,000 lbs. That's what makes them so great. Easy to haul and A lot of business that is so small people with larger dozer s won't do or it's not economical. Sure, bigger the doze r the better on the job site. But up keep is cheaper, not as physically demanding as far as maintenance, and they can do a lot of work it you have the time. Renting as has been mentioned im not sure isn't the way to go. I would think overall it would be cheaper. Most people can rent a bigger, better dozer than they can afford to buy. But it's dang nice having a dozer to use at a moment's notice. I use mine all the time and don't believe I'll ever be without one.

Buy a 120 clc komatsu or Johndeere and a 650 j Johndeere or komatsu dozer and go to work i work on equipment evreyday and thats the beat for farm or light construction use ever built
