I have a JD 350B loader and a Bobcat 328 Mini EX and a Deere 3039R cab tractor. With time, most every task is doable with them. Of course, some things are out of reach, but most just take time. with the exception of the tractor (its new) I have older equipment, but I also have a lot of tools an idea on how to repair junk. I think that lately, my go to machine on my new property has been the track loader. It will go about anywhere, sips fuel and clears land fairly quickly. I wish I had a 4 way bucket, and a ripper but such is life. I would suggest looking at a track loader of a reasonable size, I enjoy mine. Cat 939's are nice machines I hear.

. If I had to get down to a single piece it would be a rubber tired backhoe. It is the most versatile piece of equipment made. It’ll never do what a dozer does but I can’t think of anything it won’t do. Also don’t have to worry about hauling it. Less than 20 miles just drive it. I would agree with that. Along with a good mid sized tractor for grading work and maintaining roads you can do a lot.

It is the Swiss army knife of dirt workers. But Mr. Burr specifically said he had several acres of land clearing and a pond to build. Juuussst a bit outside, for the beloved backhoe. I mean we hate to admit they can't do something, but then there's reality.

A track loader with a 4/1 bucket is what you really want to own if you only want 1 piece of equipment like this. A dozer is NOT what you want. You want to Rent a Dozer and do the dozer work.... a Track Loader will maintain what the dozer did and is 100x more versatile in that it will dig, push over trees, move material from point A to point B, etc. All a dozer does it push. Once it's job is done you should not need it again if you did it correctly.
You might get by with a backhoe. A backhoe with a 4/1 bucket is the most versatile piece of equipment you can own hands down. But you would possibly need to occasionally rent a heavier piece of equipment.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

A dozer is difficult to learn to operate. Small dozer are most difficult for many reasons. Bigger is always better except when it comes to transporting. The 350/D3 size machines are designed to dress topsoil around houses and on slopes. They are not dirt pushing or clearing machines. I think you would be disappointed with that size dozer.
Like others have said rent before you buy. It very well may convince you that you really don’t want to own. A skilled operator can do many, many times the work in a day vs someone still learning. Part of the learning process is also breaking some expensive parts. Hire a good operator- expect to pay $20-30/hr and get them to teach you how to operate. It is much harder than it looks. Just a few little basic operating tips from a skilled operator makes all the difference in the world. Not only difficult and expensive, also dangerous

Great advice about the small dozer. They will work you to death and try your patience.
That's why I say mid size loader (or dozer) because they make the work so much easier..
As loaders go, a Cat 953 or JD 655 are comparable machines around 120 hp and probably 30k#.
If my budget would allow it, and I didn't have to move it, I would go with a 963 or 755.

A JD 350 is tiny and not comparable to a D3 . D3C should be bout 75 HP and 17, 000 pounds or so. I was always told , nobody can teach you how to run a dozer , best way is to get out where you are away from buildings , trees and such and go to it. JD hasn't made a 350 for several years, maybe as far back as 80's.

Skid steer has a Dozier beat all day. Might not push huge trees over but it is the best at probably 99% of clearing desires. This machine with a tooth bucket is great for cleaning debris, clearing small trees and brush, digging dirt, road grading, water breaks,......... you can move it with a pickup and 12k trailer. Rubber tracks. I could go on but I have been clearing and doing site prep for a number of years. This achine combined with a small track hoe of similar size are dynamite. If you have a large enuff trailer, both can be hauled. Plus a skid steer has a plethora of attachments.

I tried to teach myself how to operate a dozer for years. Broke several machines, wasted hundreds of hours of time and hundreds of gallons of diesel - still couldn’t push a full blade of dirt, grade, or clear land without having piles of dirt in burn piles. Worked with an old friend for couple weeks who has ran dozers for decades. He gave me a few friendly tips and it made all the difference in the world. That plus lots of practice. No substitute for experience but it helps to listen to good advice. Same for all equipment
